PUPILS BUILD INNOVATION @ THE RALEIGH SCHOOL

Another band of SATRO's volunteers headed off to The Raleigh School in West Horsley where we held a Mega-Structures Challenge on 4th June in which their Year 5 & 6 pupils were tested on their engineering skills. An impressive group of 120 pupils took part in The Bridge Building Challenge. The day involved using design and build techniques, combined with team-work, to create a bridge structure entirely of rolled paper held together with nuts and bolts. They then tested the strength of the structure by hanging weights from the bridge. The pupils thoroughly enjoyed themselves, with many now aspiring to become architects or engineers.

One pupil commented, "I now see how important engineering is and it would be a great future job for me."

another said, "I appreciate engineering a lot more as I now realise how much engineering there is in the world."
